DREAM EMBODIMENT FOR ACTORS
Dream Embodiment for Actors
(and other Artists)
Embodiment work offers a unique access to the intelligence of creative imagination.
Through ancient methods of intentional dreaming, dreams can be seeded for a dramatic
character, a painting in process, or for any other art form (literature, dance,
music, science research, etc.)
Dreaming for a character -- called dreaming by proxy
and practiced for millennia -- brings the personage to life with a freshness of
unconscious motivation and the ability to take possession of actor and audience.
This technique was developed by Janet Sonenberg, Director and Chair of the Drama and
Music Department at MIT, author of the 2003 book Dreamwork for Actors, and by
Robert Bosnak who has been working with dreamwork and acting since the 1970s.
